Shopify pricing: how much is Shopify a month?

Shopify is one of the leading platforms for building and managing eCommerce stores, offering everything from sleek website templates and secure payment tools to powerful integrations for marketing and inventory management.
While its versatile features make Shopify a top choice for businesses of all sizes, understanding how Shopify pricing works, including monthly plans, renewals, and hidden fees, can be a little tricky without guidance.
In this article, I break down Shopify’s pricing in detail, covering subscription costs, billing options, free trial terms, and refund policies. Whether you’re opening your first online shop or scaling an established store, you’ll find practical insights here to help you choose the plan that fits your needs and budget best.
Shopify pricing 2026: overview
Shopify technically has 3 main plans available for either an annual or a monthly subscription. Here are their prices:
- Basic plan – annual payment of $29.00/month (or monthly for $39.00)
- Grow plan – annual payment of $79.00/month (or monthly for $105.00)
- Advanced plan – annual payment of $299.00/month (or monthly for $399.00)
Aside from the three main plans, Shopify also offers a Starter plan at $5.00/month for selling via social media and messages, and a Plus plan for large, established enterprises and sellers, starting at $2,300.00/month for a 3-year subscription.
It’s also worth mentioning that the prices of the three main plans don’t apply straight away. You can get them for 3 days for free and only $1.00/month for 3 months.
How much does Shopify cost a month?
Shopify has three main plans with either monthly or annual subscriptions and offerings that fit different levels of online stores. Below, I break down each plan, including its pricing, features, and its best use cases.
Shopify Basic: from $29.00/month
Shopify Basic plan is a good option for basic online stores, or if you’re just starting out with eCommerce and selling goods or services online. It includes full analytics features, unlimited products, all sales channels such as social media, a custom domain, and more. Here’s what you can expect in terms of pricing:
- Monthly price: $39.00/month
- Annual price: $29.00/month ($348.00 for a year)
- Trial: 3-day free trial, then $1.00/month for 3 months
- Money-back guarantee: not applicable, no-refund policy
The Shopify Basic plan offers a full-featured online store with unlimited products, analytics, collaborators, and themes, along with free SSL certificates and unlimited web hosting under a custom domain. It supports international selling with currency conversion and translation tools but lacks local storefronts and shipping insurance. Transaction fees range from 2.6%--3.5%, plus $0.10–$0.49 per online sale and a 2% charge for third-party payments. US-based stores face a 1.5% currency conversion fee (2% elsewhere). Users get up to 87% shipping discounts, access to marketing tools like email campaigns and abandoned cart recovery, and eCommerce automations, though data access through the Shopify API is limited.
Shopify Grow: from $79.00/month
Shopify Grow plan is a good option for established online eCommerce businesses, as it includes staff accounts, unlimited web hosting, and a full-featured online store. Additional benefits that set it apart from the Basic plan include lower transaction fees, higher shipping discounts, and shipping insurance. Plus, you also get full Shopify API access to build custom apps. The major setback is that the price difference from the Basic plan is quite high – the Grow plan is nearly three times more expensive.
- Monthly price: $105.00/month
- Annual price: $79.00/month ($948 for a year)
- Trial: 3-day free trial, then $1.00/month for 3 months
- Money-back guarantee: not applicable, no-refund policy
The Shopify Grow plan provides a full-featured online store with unlimited products, analytics, themes, collaborator accounts, and up to five staff accounts. It includes free SSL certificates, unlimited web hosting under a custom domain, and tools to manage multiple stores. Transaction fees range from 2.5%--3.5%, plus $0.10–$0.49 per online sale and a 1% fee for third-party payment providers. Users benefit from up to 87% shipping discounts, small-package savings, shipping insurance, and access to eCommerce automations, third-party apps, and full Shopify API integration, though tax calculation services require an extra payment. International selling features include currency conversion and translation tools, with a 1.5%--2% conversion fee depending on location. The plan also provides comprehensive marketing tools such as discounts, automations, email campaigns, and abandoned cart recovery.
Shopify Advanced: from $299.00/month
The Shopify Advanced plan is meant for very large and established online eCommerce businesses. It is a very expensive plan, especially compared to the Basic and Grow plans, and includes everything that an established business operating worldwide could need. This includes localised storefronts, the lowest transaction fee rates among all the subscriptions, and full-featured marketing features and shipping options.
- Monthly price: $399.00/month
- Annual price: $299.00/month ($3,588 for a year)
- Trial: 3-day free trial, then $1.00/month for 3 months
- Money-back guarantee: not applicable, no-refund policy
The Shopify Advanced plan offers a robust online store with unlimited products, analytics, themes, collaborator accounts, and up to 15 staff accounts – ideal for scaling businesses despite its higher cost compared to lower-tier plans. It includes unlimited web hosting, a custom domain, free SSL certificates, and settings for managing multiple stores. Transaction fees range from 2.4%--3.5%, with an additional $0.10–$0.49 per online sale and only a 0.6% fee for third-party payment providers. Users receive up to 87% shipping discounts, small-package savings, insurance, and built-in third-party tax calculations, along with full API access, eCommerce automations, and app integrations. The plan supports international selling with features like currency conversion, translation, local storefronts, and import tax automation, though currency conversion fees remain 1.5%--2%. It also includes advanced marketing tools such as discounts, email campaigns, and abandoned cart recovery.
Shopify's free trial and money-back guarantee
Notably, Shopify offers flat-rate pricing, which means there are no price hikes upon renewal. The reason for this is the 3-day free trial, and 3 months for $1.00/month after that, applicable to all annual plans. That’s right, you can try any Shopify plan for free for 3 days, no card or other payment details required, only a sign-up with email.
Because of the 3-day trial and a huge 3-month discount, Shopify doesn’t offer a money-back guarantee for its subscriptions. You can get a refund if your specific situation requires it, but in that case, you will need to contact Shopify’s support team.
Does Shopify have hidden fees?
Shopify has some services that are not included in the subscriptions outlined above. You can also end up paying extra if you choose to use certain features, such as non-Shopify payment methods, or if you want to buy third-party apps from the Shopify app store.
Third-party apps
The Shopify app store houses thousands of different applications from third-party developers. The pricing for these applications is also set by developers, and the billing will come from them, not Shopify. However, some apps in the Shopify App Store are also free, and others offer free trials or have free versions.
Non-Shopify payment methods
Shopify payment gateways are included with all plans and don’t cost any extra money. However, if you select to use other payment methods, you will be charged extra. These extra fees include both Shopify’s transaction fees as well as any fees of the third-party payment gateway provider.
POS pro (for selling in person)
The Point of Sale (POS) basic version is included with every Shopify plan, allowing you to expand from online selling to selling in person. This includes connecting hardware to your Shopify store and other convenient features.
POS Pro plans, however, include more benefits for selling in specific locations. For example, you can have unlimited staff accounts, process returns at any location, utilize advanced analytics, and more.
The POS Pro subscription costs $89.00/month per location, in addition to any of your existing Shopify plans. You can find out more about it here.
Shopify email
The email service is available with all plans, with the first 10,000 emails available for free every month. If you exceed this limit, additional charges will apply.
This is how the Shopify email pricing system works:
| Number of emails | Cost |
| First 10,000 emails per month | Free |
| Up to 300,000 additional emails | $1.00 per 1,000 emails |
| 300,001 to 750,000 additional emails | $0.65 per 1,000 emails |
| >750,000 additional emails | $0.55 per 1,000 emails |
Shopify asserts that it charges only for sent emails, and emails about abandoned checkouts are always free and don’t count towards the 10,000 free emails. However, the free emails you didn’t use don’t carry over to the next month.
Shopify Tax
Shopify Tax is a proprietary tax calculation platform for calculating taxes for all your products and services according to the newest, updated tax rules. The pricing of this service depends on your location and sales volume per year. Here’s how the pricing system works:
| Sales volume | Shopify Tax price |
| First $100,000 (or other currencies) per year in global sales | Free |
| >$100,000 (or other currencies) per year in global sales |
|
The above pricing terms apply only to stores with a yearly global sales volume below $1M. Additionally, the fees are capped at $5000 per calendar year (also in other currencies).
How to get Shopify cheaper?
Shopify is one of the most expensive eCommerce website builders, with prices starting at $29.00/month. But what if I told you there’s a way to get it cheaper?
Firstly, despite being so expensive, Shopify offers quite a good free trial + introductory pricing deal: for the first 3 days, you can try it for free, and the three months after that will cost you only $1.00/month.
Additionally, you can always look out for Shopify deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And if you don’t want to wait for the festive discount seasons, I recommend you check out Shopify coupons and web hosting coupons. Maybe a great discount is hiding in there unseen.
Shopify's refund policy
Shopify has a “strict no-refund policy” as stated in their Terms of Service. This applies to all plans and services, irrespective of cancellations or deactivations. This means that in the case of cancelling your subscription before the end of the subscription period, deactivating your store, downgrading your plan, or any other issues, such as misspelled domains, you will not get a refund. This also includes unused services.
However, Shopify may grant you a refund if there was a billing error. In such cases, you should contact support and have all the receipts, that is, the necessary documentation and proof of error, ready. That said, it’s good to keep in mind that refunds for apps bought in the Shopify app store are handled by the respective app developers.
Shopify's payment methods
Shopify has quite a few payment methods for paying for your subscription and other bills:
- Credit and debit cards (Mastercard, Visa, or American Express, and Diners Club and Discover in the US)
- PayPal (Except in India, and only in US dollars in Japan and Australia)
- Shopify Balance
- ACH debit (in the US)
- SEPA direct debit (for stores based in Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, or Switzerland, and only in Euro)
You can’t use payment methods like Google Pay or Apple Pay to pay for your own Shopify subscription or services. However, these methods are available for your customers to use in your Shopify store.
Additionally, available payment methods may vary depending on your location. For example, in Brazil, you can only use international Visa and Mastercard cards. I recommend checking out the Shopify help center page for payment methods to find out about your specific situation.
